It determined the association between the impact of the EndSARS protests and the age of SMEs in Lagos State, the impact and the effect of the EndSARS protests on SMEs, their challenges and proffered solutions to the challenges identified. A total of 310 SME operators were selected purposively from the Yaba and Shomolu Areas of the State. Data was collected using a structured self-designed questionnaire with Cronbach Alpha’s reliability coefficient ranging from 0.74 – 0.94 and was administered to the SME operators. The data collected were cleansed and analysed using frequency distributions and the Chi-Square test with the aid of SPSS 26.0.
The results show that the impact of the protest on SMEs was high in form of loss of sales (88.4%), disruption of business (87.1%), loss of customers (89.7%), loss of goods (81.9%), cancellation of business appointments (86.1%), broken business promises (91.0%) and loss of business (91.0%). The protest also resulted in reduced demand and supply, high transportation fares, looting of goods, property vandalisation, disruption of businesses and destruction of goods and properties. The study found a significant association between the impact of the EndSARS protest and the age of the business (p < 0.05). The study, therefore, concluded that the EndSARS protest had a significantly high impact on small and medium-scale enterprises in the Yaba and Shomolu areas of Lagos State.
